As part of the important need to become fully compliant with the new Building Fire Safety Regulation 2008 we employed QBM to advise us on all matters to do with the legislation and how it related to the present state of fire control in our buildings.
QBM's role was to make sure our buildings were prepared to meet all the obligations under the act. After due process the three Body Corporates I represent as Building Manager, Amity, Myora and Bridgewater Quays, all at Kangaroo Point, agreed to employ QBM. The role of QBM was to carry out the necessary inspections, make recommendations in relation to the building and fire evacuation procedures and to organize training of personnel.
In due course the professionals from QBM came out and did the on-site work and then made recommendations based on these. They also prepared all the necessary evacuation diagrams as these were missing from all three complexes.
One building had special requirements under the act as part of it is a retail strip at street level. Each of these lots/shops had to have their own individual inspection carried out to ensure they meet their special obligations under the act. Kerry Washington was responsible for this important part of the work.
Kerry faced the usual opposition from owners of small enterprises with perseverance and understanding. She made continued attempts to ensure each shop owner was fully aware of their increased responsibilities under the act. Kerry worked professionally and consistently throughout the compliance period.
Following on very soon after the completion of the QMB work, the Queensland Fire Service contacted us advising that they would carry out a full review of Amity in relation to the new act. This inspection consisted of five fire officers attending and they did a thorough inspection of the building and the required records. Amity was given an outstandingly positive review and a five year clean bill of health.
We are obviously very pleased therefore with the work that QBM carried out and with Kerry Washington's efforts in the important retail area and highly recommend them in this important area. We will have an ongoing relationship with them as they carry out the yearly inspections in line with the legislation.

I would just like to pass through my thanks to everyone who assisted me from your company. I really appreciate how quickly and professionally your office worked with the two inspections that were completed at the two units we own at Redlynch Grove apartments.
We had been given notice that your company had completed a number of inspections at other units in this complex, and you would be the best company to use for the situation we were having. Honestly I thought that people were just recommending companies who they had previously used and I would be given a poor service, until I actually used you.
The service was fantastic and made it so easy for me. From the first phone call, your company assured me that you would be able to attend to the inspection as quickly as the tenants would allow, You were able to inspect the property within three days.
The inspection report was great and easy to understand. The colour photographs and descriptions to go with them, made it really easy to understand and to pass on to the builders what needed to be attended to, I received the inspection report the next day.
Everyone I spoke to was able to give me friendly, prompt, and accurate advise.
As we live in New South Wales, the use of email and EFT made it so much easier for us.
From your report we are in the process of having our building defects attended to by the builders which were not found in the original building inspection which was carried out.
Once again thank you for the service which was provided, and when I purchase my next property in Queensland you guys will be the first contact for any building inspections needed.
